RICHMOND ELIMINATES TEMPLE IN A-10 SEMIS, 4-0

AMHERST, MA - Richmond's Holly Cram, the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, scored two goals and assisted on another as the Spiders eliminated Temple from the A-10 Tournament with a 4-0 victory on a frigid night on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. Senior Erin Conroy made six saves in her final game in the cage. The Owls finish their season with a 9-11-1 record, while Richmond, ranked #10 by the NFCHA, advances to face host UMass on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Spiders (16-2) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal just 5:57 into the start of play. Colleen Wevodau received a pass from Michelle La Force inside the circle and blasted it by Conroy. The Owls hung tough however and had the ball in the circle four four straight possessions. TU received three penalty corners in the next seven minutes, but were unable to get a shot on goal. Richmond then added to its lead at the 17:53 mark when Cram stole a Temple defender's attempt to clear the circle and put her shot by Conroy.
Cram then made it 3-0 Spiders when she scored off a penalty corner with 5:04 left in the first half. La Force and Allie Howard were credited with assists on the play. The Spiders added a fourth goal 11:27 into the second half and cruised to the victory. Cram set up Amanda Florio for the score.
Temple was held without a shot on goal and had just three total for the game. The Spiders had 15 for the game. The Spiders also had five penalty corners while the Owls took three.
Massachusetts defeated Saint Joseph's, 3-0, in the other semifinal. Massachusetts will be looking for its tenth Atlantic 10 title tomorrow while the Spiders are playing for their third straight. The game will be at 5:00 at Garber Field.
