12.19.04 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University junior Mardy Collins has earned his second Atlantic 10 Conference and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week awards of the season. The 6-6 point guard scored a season-high 25 points in a 67-64 loss to No. 5 Wake Forest on Dec. 13 in his only game last week. He shares the A-10 award with Richmond junior Jermaine Bucknor while he was the lone Big 5 recipient of the week.
Collins, who leads Temple in scoring (16.3 ppg.), assists (4.6 apg.) and ranks third in the nation in steals (3.9 spg.), also had five assists and seven steals in that Wake Forest game. He shot nine-of-19 from the field against the Demon Deacons, including 3-8 from three, and 4-6 from the foul line while playing all 40 minutes. He has played all 40 minutes in the Owls' last four straight contests and has a streak of 180 consecutive minutes played.
Collins will lead the Owls back on the hardwood Monday night when Temple hosts Princeton at the Liacouras Center (7:00 p.m./ESPN2/WPHT 1210 AM).
