PHILADELPHIA - Massachusetts, one of the games that got away from Temple earlier in the season, is the Owls foe Wednesday night (8:00 p.m./CN8/WPHT 1210 AM) at the Liacouras Center. Since its loss to the Minutemen on January 24, Temple (14-11, 8-6 in A-10 play) has won eight of 10 with the two losses coming at the hands of #2 Saint Joseph's.

In the first meeting, David Hawkins scored 19 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to lead Temple back from a 23-point deficit. The Owls would take the lead, 65-62, with 1:40 remaining, but UMass' Art Bowers connected on a three-pointer with 42 seconds to play to lift the Minutemen to victory. The UMass win also delayed Temple coach John Chaney's 700th career win.

Hawkins, the Atlantic 10 Conference's leading scorer (23.7 ppg.), needs 26 points to pass Saint Joseph's Bernard Blunt (1,985 points, 1990-95) and move into 10th place on the all-time Atlantic 10 scoring list. With 40 points he will become the third Temple player to tally 2,000 career points.

Sophomore Mardy Collins has been on fire of late for the Owls. The Temple point guard has scored in double figures in a personal-best 14 games. averaging 17 points per game during that span.

UMass (10-16, 4-10 in A-10 play), which ended a five-game skid on Saturday with a 82-71 win over St. Bonaventure, is led by Rashaun Freeman (15.0 ppg.). The 6-8 sophomore forward posted career highs of 31 points and 18 rebounds in the Bonnies win, earning his sixth A-10 Rookie of the Week citation.
