FIELD HOCKEY OPENS 2004 SEASON WITH A PAIR OF HOME GAMES

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple field hockey team opens the 2004 Temple Athletics' campaign with a Saturday match up with Lehigh at noon. There will be no rest for the Owls as they host Syracuse on Sunday at noon to open the 2004 season for the Orange.
Temple is led by All-American goalkeeper Erin Conroy and A-10 All-Conference back Talia Ruth. The Owls return three of their top four scorers in sophomores Monica Jiao (16 points), all conference forward Lindsay Holman (12 points) and junior Rachel Barber (10 points). Senior forward Andrea Duva (nine points) will solidify the Owls offensive punch with her leadership and experience.
The Owls have 10 newcomers including eight freshman that are expected to challenge for playing time as the have a excellent balance of talented and versatile players that can play more than one position.
With the influx of newcomers and experience upperclassmen the Owls are expecting to challenge for the A-10 title game and have another double --figure win total under head coach Lauren Fuchs, who is entering her 13th season at Temple.
Temple leads the all-time series 5-4-2; the Mountain Hawks have won the last two meetings, including a 1-0 victory on October 29, 2003 at Lehigh.
