FIELD HOCKEY OPENS 2004 CAMPAIGN WITH 3-1, WIN OVER LEHIGH
8.27.04 | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA- Junior transfer Jen Adamek made her presence felt less than eight minutes into her career at Temple; scoring the first goal of the 2004 season at the 27:12 mark leading Temple to a 3-1 win over Lehigh at Geasey Field. Sophomore Lindsay Holman and junior Katie Stevenson contributed two assists a piece while juniors Dannon Mehaffey and Talia Ruth each added a goal.
Adamek opened the scoring off a pass from Holman with 27:12 left in the first half. Lehigh's junior Marissa Iannarone tied the score at 1-1 off an assist from senior Krista Jamison at the 12:22 mark of the first half. It looked as if the game would be knotted at intermission when Ruth gave the Owls the lead for good off assists from Holman and Stevenson with 1:50 left in the half.
Mehaffey sealed the victory 53 seconds into the second half scoring off assists from sophomore Megan Hannahoe and Stevenson. Owls' senior All-American goalkeeper Erin Conroy had eight saves and Lehigh senior netminder Jeanie Hoff had five saves and junior Meghan Gove in relief posted four saves.
Temple out-shot the Mountain Hawks 18-15, while each team recorded seven penalty corners.
The Owls (1-0) will host the Syracuse Orange (0-0) tomorrow at noon.
