FORMER OWL SANCHEZ WINS GOLD IN ATHENS

ATHENS, GREECE - Former Temple point guard Pepe Sanchez became the third Owl to win a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens when his Argentina men's basketball team defeated Italy, 84-69, on Saturday. Sanchez dished five assists in 25 minutes of action.
The 2000 Temple graduate also played a big part in Argentina's semifinal victory over the United States. Sanchez handed out seven assists and scored five points in the 89-81 Argentina win.
TU women's basketball coach Dawn Staley and rower Jason Read, a graduate of Temple's Fox School of Business, secured gold medals for the United States at the Athens Games.
