9.3.04 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's basketball team received good and bad news this week with the start of the fall semester. On the positive side, Philadelphia area high school standouts Chris Clark and Tyrone Smith, who signed non-binding scholarship letters over the summer, officially enrolled at University. The two freshmen guards will help offset the loss of sophomore guard Tyreek Byard, who failed to meet academic eligibility requirements.
Clark, a 5-8 point guard out of St. Joseph's Prep, earned first team all-City honors as a senior last year. He averaged 16.1 points per game, helping lead SJP to the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship for the second straight season.. He was also a second team all-league selection as a junior when he averaged 10.8 points per contest.
Smith, a 6-0 guard, teamed with incoming Owl freshman Mark Tyndale to lead Simon Gratz High to the 2004 Philadelphia Public League Championship. A second team all-Public League selection, he averaged 10.8 points per game during his senior year.
