PHILADELPHIA -- Junior Mardy Collins earned his third Atlantic 10 Conference and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week honors Sunday, January 9. Collins, who averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals, shares the A-10 honor with Duquesne junior Bryant McAllister.
The 6-6 point guard opened the week by posting his first career double-double in a 61-49 win at Massachusetts on January 5. Collins scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in the contest. On Saturday, the Temple co-captain led the Owls with 23 points while dishing six assists and six steals. He also shot 15-of-28 (.536) for the week, including five-of-eight (.625) from three-point range.
For the season, Collins leads the Owls and ranks second in the A-10 in scoring with a 17.8 average. He also leads the nation in steals with a 4.0 average while topping Temple and placing sixth in the conference in assists (4.1 apg.).
