FIELD HOCKEY OUTLASTS LA SALLE IN OVERTIME, 2-1

10.9.05 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple field hockey team remained unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play following their 2-1 overtime win against La Salle Sunday afternoon at Geasey Field.  Sophomore Alli Lokey's decisive tally slightly under four minutes into the extra session extended the Owls' winning streak to three games.

A scoreless opening 31 minutes saw its first goal following Leanne Vogelsong's first intercollegiate tally.  Vogelsong found the back of the cage after Rachel Barber's unmarked fast break turned into a scramble in front.  Senior Jen Adamek, in her first reserve role of the season, tipped a rebound that found Vogelsong's stick and was credited with an assist.

After going the entire first half without recording a shot on Owls' goalkeeper Erin Hanshue, the Explorers responded with four shots and one penalty corner that didn't come until the game clock read zeros.  The penalty corner, whistled with less than two ticks left in the second half, resulted in an Emily Simone goal that forced overtime.

Playing in their first extra session game all season, the Owls wasted no time in producing the outcome.  Lokey, whose overtime winner was her fourth goal in the last three games, penetrated the Explorer defense and found herself point blank in front of LaSalle goalkeeper Ellen Axelson at the 11:08 mark.

Axelson stopped three shots for the Explorers while senior Amy Dalrymple recorded a defensive save.

Senior defender Katie Stevenson recorded two defensive saves in the winning effort while Hanshue turned away three LaSalle shots for the Owls.

With the win, the Owls won just their fourth game of the season decided by one goal.

The Owls haven't won three straight games over a six-day span since 2002 when they dropped Davidson (10/5), VCU (10/6), and Penn (10/9), all away from home, over five days.

The Owls will ride their second three-game winning streak of the season to Saint Louis when the Billikens play host Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
