FOURTH ANNUAL AARON MCKIE CHARITY THANKSGIVING DINNER TO TAKE PLACE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT THE LIACOURAS CENTER
11.22.05 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA -
This year's dinner will benefit Hurricane Katrina evacuees that have been relocated to the Philadelphia area, along with other families that are being serviced by the Office of Emergency Shelter Service. There will be a total of 200 attendees at the dinner, which begins at 12:00 noon and will last approximately 1 -- 11/2 hours. In past years, the dinner has hosted various organizations such as the Red Cross, Northern Home For Boys and the Salvation Army.
McKie will be unable to attend the dinner, as the Lakers host the Seattle Supersonics in a nationally-televised game that evening. The Philadelphia native is in his 12th NBA season and was named the league's 2000-01 Sixth Man of The Year after helping to lead his hometown 76ers to the 2001 Eastern Conference title. McKie ascended to the pro ranks after playing three seasons for the Owls under John Chaney from 1991-92 to 1993-94. He currently ranks eighth all-time at Temple with 1,650 career points.
The Annual Aaron McKie Charity Thanksgiving Dinner will take place this Thursday (Nov. 24) at 12 noon at the Liacouras Center, located at 1776 North Broad Street. It will mark the fourth consecutive year that McKie, a Simon Gratz High School graduate and current Los Angeles Lakers guard, will sponsor the event at his alma mater, Temple University.
