11.28.05 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA -- Nelson Broderick, a 6-6, 200-pound freshman forward out of Gaithersburg (MD) High, and Brian Shanahan, a 6-0, 175-pound freshman guard from Episcopal Academy (Haddon Heights, NJ), have joined the 2005-06 Temple men's basketball team as walk-ons, announced men's basketball coach John Chaney.

"Once again we were able to select from our student body two fine young men as walk-ons to our team," said the Owls' Hall of Fame coach. "Nelson and Brian have worked extremely hard to make the squad and they keep up our tradition of having walk-ons make the team."

Broderick was a two-year letterwinner and served as team captain during his senior year at Gaithersburg. He earned all-County honors as a senior in 2004-05. Shanahan was a three-year starter who averaged 12 points and five assists as a senior in '04-05. He earned second team all-Inter-Ac honors.

Broderick will wear uniform #40 while Shanahan will wear uniform #0. The two will travel with the team for its game at Rutgers Wednesday night.
