MEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS FOR RARE WIN AT RICHMOND

2.17.05 | Men's Basketball

RICHMOND, VA - The Temple men's basketball team completes its two-game road trip with a visit to one of the Atlantic 10 Conference's toughest places to play, the Robins Center, for a Saturday night game (7:00 p.m./Comcast SportsNet/WPHT 1210 AM). The Owls (12-10, 8-3) will look to post their first win at Richmond (11-12, 6-6) since January 3, 1955. The Spiders, 7-2 at home this season, have been a difficult opponent for the Owls no matter what the venue, owning a 4-1 mark against Temple since joining the A-10 at the start of the 2000-01 season.

Junior All-America candidate Mardy Collins continues to be the guiding force for Hall of Fame coach John Chaney's squad. Ranked second in the A-10 in scoring (17.6 ppg.) and steals (2.95 spg.), Collins led all scorers with a season-high 29 points in the team's 68-62 win at Duquesne Wednesday night. Junior Antywane Robinson rebounded from a dismal game against Saint Joseph's to tie his season high with 15 points while grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the campaign. Sophomore Dustin Salisbery (2-13 FGs, 4 points) came off the bench as he was still suffering effects from an ankle sprain while Mark Tyndale (5 points) was held well below his season average (13.2 ppg.) in the contest.

Richmond takes the floor under the direction of third-year head coach Jerry Wainwright looking to snap a three-game losing streak.  The Spiders lost a low-scoring affair at Saint Joseph's Wednesday, 49-36. UR boasts a balanced offensive attack that features four double-figure scorers. Junior center Kevin Steenberge leads UR in scoring (12.4 ppg.) and rebounding (6.0 rpg.). Sophomore guard Daon Merritt (11.3 ppg.) is the top playmaker (95 assists) while junior forward Jermaine Bucknor (10.9 ppg.) is the team's top perimeter threat (48 three-pointers). Senior guard Jamaal Scott (10.1 ppg.) rounds out the double-figure scorers.
