2.9.05 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - Amanda Janney, who served as the Assistant Field Hockey Coach at the University of Pennsylvania for the past two years, has been named as the Head Field Hockey Coach at Temple. Janney will assume her Temple coaching responsibilities effective immediately.

"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to work with the Temple field hockey program," said Janney. "They have consistently done well in the Atlantic 10 and I'm looking forward to continue that winning tradition in the future."

Janney comes to Temple with a wealth of coaching and playing experience. In addition to her coaching duties at Penn, Janney has served as a coach and director for various camps and national youth teams, including the United States Field Hockey Association's (USFHA) Futures Program, the AAU Junior Olympics, the USA/Canada Field Hockey Challenge and the USFHA National Field Hockey Festival. She also received coaching certification from the NCAA, USFHA Level One Coaching, the USFHA Futures Program and the Greg Gephart Fund Coaching Clinic.

In her two seasons at Penn, Janney assisted with recruiting, fundraising, speed and weight training. Under her guidance, the Quakers finished the 2003 season with a 10-8 overall record, the Philadelphia City 6 title and a #30 national ranking by BRP's ratings.com. Last season, the team went 13-4 on its way to a share of the Ivy League title, a #20 national ranking by womensfieldhockey.com and an Ivy League leading eight shutouts. The team was also ranked #5 in the country in scoring defense.

Prior to her tenure with the Quakers, Janney served for one season as an assistant coach at James Madison University, where she helped the Dukes to a 13-9 season and their first NCAA appearance since the 1999 season. JMU began the season with a 5-0 record and a NFHCA #4 national ranking.

After graduating from Wake Forest University with a Sociology degree in 1999, Janney took a job at the Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth Texas. In addition to serving as a physical education instructor, Janney was the head girls field hockey and soccer coach. In three seasons, she led the field hockey team to a 53-3-1 record, two Southwest Preparatory Conference titles and the first undefeated season in school history.

As a player, Janney's resume is just as impressive. A four-year center forward for the Wake Forest University field hockey team, Janney helped the Demon Deacons to a Top 20 National Ranking and graduated among the school's top ten in career goals (21) and assists (17).

A two-year member of Metro Rush, a USFHA Summer League Team, Janney played in the All-Star Game against the U.S. National Team this past summer. For the past three years, Janney has also played in the USFHA National Field Hockey Festival as a member of the Spirit of USA and Head to Toe teams.

She is also a skilled indoor player, participating in the USFHA National Indoor Tournament as a member of Team Dita from 2002-04. In 2004, Janney was selected as an alternate member of the USA Field Hockey National Indoor Team. She also competed for Team Dita in the 2004 North American Premier League and was named a NAPL All-Star.

Janney was recently accepted in the USFHA's Elite Performance Training Center for the Pennsylvania/New Jersey region. The EPTC is a player development program designed to train players for the demands of the international game.
