PHILADELPHIA- First year head coach Amanda Janney and the Temple field hockey team have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2005 season. Looking to improve on last season's 9-11 record, the Owls open their season against the Lehigh University Hawks on August 27. Lehigh is coming off a 9-10 season in which it finished fourth in the Patriot League.
The Owls are also hosting the Temple University Invitational from September 10 to 11. Other teams participating in this event include the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, the Monmouth Hawks, and the Villanova Wildcats. North Carolina is coming off a 16-6 season including a second place finish during the ACC regular season. Monmouth finished 9-10 last year and Villanova ended their season with an 11-8 record.
Atlantic 10 defending champion Richmond will play host to the Owls on October 16. Other tough opponents for the 2005 season include the University of Penn, who tied for the best conference record in the Ivy League, and Delaware who finished last season 14-7 including a 6-3 record in the Colonial Athletic Conference.
The Atlantic 10 slate includes home dates against West Chester, La Salle, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Saint Joseph's. TU will also visit A-10 rookie Saint Louis University before returning home to host the 2005 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championships. The tournament will be held on the Owl's Geasey Field November 4-5.
