MARDY COLLINS ADDED TO USA BASKETBALL U21 TRIALS ROSTER

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University guard Mardy Collins has been added to the 2005 USA U21 Men's National Team Trials roster, it was announced today by the USA Basketball Men's Collegiate Committee which is chaired by Syracuse University head coach Jim Boeheim. Arkansas guard Ronnie Brewer joined Collins as a late invitee on an impressive list of the nation's top 21-and-unders (born on or after Jan. 1, 1984) who will attend the July 21-23 USA Basketball Men's U21 National Team Trials in Dallas, Texas.

Collins will be one of 20 athletes that will vie for a spot on the final 12-member U.S. U21 squad that will look to defend its gold medal at the 2005 FIBA U21 World Championship in Mar de Plata, Argentina, Aug. 5-14.

A 6-6 point guard, Collins is coming off a solid junior season where he led John Chaney's Temple Owls in virtually every statistical category. He topped the Cherry and White in scoring (17.5 ppg.), rebounding (5.9 rpg.), assists (3.6 apg.) and steals (2.7 spg.) during the 2004-05 season while earning 2005 All-District first team honors from the NABC and USBWA. Collins also was named to the 2005 All-Atlantic 10 Conference first team, the 2005 A-10 All-Defensive Team and the 2005 Philadelphia Big 5 first team. He also was a five-time player of the week honoree by both the A-10 and the Big 5.

In addition to Brewer and Collins, previously announced athletes who are expected to compete for spots on the 2005 USA U21 National Team include: Josh Boone (Connecticut); Aaron Brooks (Oregon); Shannon Brown (Michigan State); JamesOn Curry (Oklahoma State); Glen Davis (Louisiana State); Jared Dudley (Boston College); Nick Fazekas (Nevada); Rudy Gay (Connecticut); C.J. Giles (Kansas); Justin Gray (Wake Forest); Taj Gray (Oklahoma); Allan Ray (Villanova); J.J. Redick (Duke); Terrence Roberts (Syracuse); Rajon Rondo (Kentucky); Darius Washington, Jr. (Memphis); Marcus Williams (Connecticut); and Curtis Withers (Charlotte).

Saint Joseph's University head coach Phil Martelli has been named as the USA team's head coach and acting as his assistants will be collegiate head coaches James 'Bruiser' Flint from Drexel University and Dennis Felton from the University of Georgia.
