8.27.05 | Field Hockey
BETHLEHEM - First year head coach Amanda Janney was victorious in her Temple (1-0) debut this afternoon after a 5-1 win over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Owls offensive attack was led by junior forward Lindsay Holman who tallied three goals while recording six points.
Holman put the Owls on the scoreboard at the 3:41 mark on a pass from sophomore Alli Lokey. The go-ahead goal, and eventual game winner, came off the stick of senior forward Melissa Fritze less than a minute after Holman's initial tally. Lokey, the sophomore midfielder, added the Owls final goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Ashley Bird. Making her first career start, freshman goalie Erin Hanshue played solid in the cage after turning away five shots and allowing just one goal.
Holman's hat trick is the first in her career at Temple and the program's first since Julie Martinez deposited three goals against Rutgers in 2000.
The Mountain Hawks (0-1) scored the first goal of the contest following senior defender Mary Beth Kuenne's goal. Kuenne's goal, off a corner, was set up by senior forward Marissa Iannarone and junior forward Kelsey Smith. Despite allowing five goals, senior goal keeper Meghan Gove stopped a career high 15 shots.
Janney and the Owls will make their home debut Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. when the visiting Lafayette Leopards come to Geasey Field.
