FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO LAFAYETTE

8.28.05 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple (1-1) field hockey team dropped its 2005 home opener, 2-1, to the Lafayette Leopards Sunday afternoon at Geasey Field.  A late goal by junior defender Megan Hannahoe forced a dramatic final minute before the Leopards walked away with their first win of the young season.

Hannahoe's goal, her first of the season, came at the 68:48 mark off a corner set up by sophomore midfielder Alli Lokey.  The Owls offense peppered Lafayette goalkeeper Jill Lambert for 15 shots on goal.  Lokey, persistant on the offensive end, also registered five shots on goal.

The Leopards (1-0) got on the board early at the 4:29 mark following an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Amanda Eggleston.  Lafayette extended their slim first half lead when senior midfielder Jennifer Bratz slipped one past Owls' goalkeeper Erin Hanshue.

Owls senior defender Dannon Mehaffey  recorded her first defensive save of the season while Hanshue turned away two shots.

The Owls field hockey team returns to Geasey Field to host visiting Albany on Friday, September 2 at 3:00 p.m.
