FIELD HOCKEY DROPS SECOND STRAIGHT, FALLS TO ALBANY 4-2

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team (1-2) lost its second straight Friday afternoon dropping a 4-2 decision to visiting Albany.  Despite two goals from junior Lindsay Holman, the Great Danes scored twice in the first half followed by two more in the second to capture their first win of the 2005 season.

Holman's first tally, her fourth of the season, tied the game at one goal apiece and came close to 11 minutes into the first half.  Senior defender Ashley Shepps created the scoring opportunity before Holman tipped the rebound past Albany goalkeeper Ashley Ross.  The Owls posted five shots in the first half, but could muster only two the rest of the way. 

Holman's second goal, coming just under five minutes into the second frame, was set up nicely by senior Rachel Barber, who was seeing her first action of the season following an injury.  Barber's cross in front of the cage found Holman's stick for her team-leading fifth goal and tied the game at two.

Albany (1-1) got on the board early in the first half when freshman midfielder Kasey Weaver found the back of the cage on an unassisted tally.  Shortly after Holman's first goal, the Great Danes responded with the go-ahead following senior forward Tina Bryson's tip-in.  Albany's third and decisive goal, scored by freshman midfielder Michelle Polizois, came off a corner set up by midfielders Vanessa Walter and Arlette Westdrop.  Sophomore Kristen Holder capped off the scoring when she redirected her own rebound into an open net.

Temple goalkeeper freshman Erin Hanshue turned away a season-high nine shots.

The Owls remain at home Sunday afternoon when the visiting Michigan Wolverines come to Geasey Field for a noon start.
