Owls Edged in Extra Session at Saint Joseph's, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA - Junior midfielder Alli Lokey's career-high tenth goal of the season with nearly four and a half minutes remaining in regulation forced the extra session before Lauren Luft supplied Saint Joseph's with a 2-1 overtime Atlantic 10 win. Following Temple's third consecutive overtime contesth, the Cherry and White finish the regular season with the program's most wins since 1991 at 13-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play. With the win, the Hawks improve to 10-9 overall and create a temporary two-team log-jam at 4-3 in the Atlantic 10.
After 45 minutes of scoreless play, the Hawks initiated the game's scoring following Marissa Pizzi's unassisted goal at the 45:29 mark. The hosts used a 6-4 penalty corner advantage, and a 13-7 shot lead, for the game, to keep the Owls' offense silenced before Lokey's tally. Junior midfielder Leanne Vogelsong was credited with an assist, her fourth this season, on the game's equalizing score at the 65:28 mark.
An offensively quiet overtime period featured just two shots and one penalty corner, all posted by the Hawks, before Maureen Casserly found Luft for the game's decisive goal.
Defensively, Owls sophomore goalkeeper Erin Hanshue, entering the contest ranked fifth nationally in goals against average (.99), posted four saves while Saint Joseph's stopper Rebecca Cunfer recorded four, as well. Temple defender Nadia Clendening and Saint Joseph's Jenn Schultz each tallied one defensive save.
Results from this afternoon's Atlantic 10 match up between Massachusetts and Rhode Island (4:00 p.m.), as well as tomorrow's Saint Louis and Richmond game (1:00 p.m.), will decide Temple's seeding in their 15th conference tournament appearance since 1989.
