Streak Snapped At Seven As Owls Toppled, 3-1, At Rhode Island

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey's seven-game win streak was halted Sunday afternoon following a 3-1 loss at Rhode Island. Despite scoring the contest's first goal, the Owls were limited to just one shot in the second half and five for the game. With the first loss since September 10, the Cherry and White drops to 10-4, 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 while the Rams improve to 5-5 and 1-1 in conference play.
As the Owls have outscored their opponents 15-5 in the first frame this season, sophomore forward Liz Watto, compliment of senior defender Megan Hannahoe, contributed to the cause following her second goal of the season and a Temple 1-0 lead at the 8:01 mark. The Rams responded less than four minutes before the intermission following junior midfielder Jen Cetenich's team-leading sixth goal of the season. Sophomore defender Laura Hackenberger was credited with an assist on the half's final score.
The hosts wasted just one minute and 34 seconds of the second half before gaining a one-goal lead after junior defender Laura Lipski connected with freshman midfielder Jill Powers for the game's eventual decisive tally. Rhode Island sophomore forward Annie Kane gave the Rams breathing room and a two-goal cushion at the 55:31 mark of the second half. Freshman midfielder Lexi Mihailides recorded an assist on the afternoon's last goal.
Defensively, Owls sophomore goalkeeper Erin Hanshue posted five saves while Rams junior goalkeeper M.J. Britt stopped four shots.
The Cherry and White remain on the road for the third time in four games Friday afternoon against La Salle at 3:30 p.m.
