PHILADELPHIA - Temple University sophomore guard Dionte Christmas picked up his second weekly honor of the season as he was named co-Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the week ending December 17. Christmas, who had previously been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for the week ending December 2, shares the honor with La Salle's Rodney Green.
The Philadelphia native (Philadelphia Lutheran Christian Academy) scored a career-high 29 points and dished a career-high five assists to lead the Owls to a 75-70 win at Towson Saturday. He shot 9-of-14 (64.3%) from field, 4-of-9 (44.4%) from 3-point range and 7-of-8 (87.5%) from the foul line in the team's only game of the week. He also played solid defense on Towson's Gary Neal, holding the nation's 12th-leading scorer to 20 points on six-of-20 shooting from the field (2-10 from three-point range).
Christmas continues to lead the A-10 in scoring with a 21.7 scoring average. He also ranks third in the conference in three-pointers made (2.71 pg.), fifth in field goal percentage (.565) and seventh in free throw percentage (.860).
Temple (4-3) next travels to Muncie, Ind. for a Tuesday game at Ball State (7:00 p.m.).
