5.22.06 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Former Temple University standout guard Lynn Greer has been named the Most Valuable Player of Lega A, the top professional league in Italy. Greer led his Carpisa Napoli team to the 2006 Italian Cup, averaging 22.8 points and 3.4 assists per game for Carpisa. He connected on 50 percent from three-point range and 91 percent from the foul line.
One of the most prolific scorers in Temple history, Greer finished his career (1997-98 through 2001-02) second on the Owls' all-time scoring list with 2,099 points. He ranks fourth on the TU list for career scoring average (19.0 ppg.) while topping the Owls' all-time list for free throw percentage (466-547, .852) and three-pointers made (305).
As a senior, the Philadelphia native (Engineering and Sciences) averaged 23.2 points and 4.2 assists per game in leading the Owls to a 19-15 record and a berth in the NIT Final Four. The 2002 Philadelphia Big 5 MVP, Greer scored 47 points, the most by an Owl player since 1956 and third highest in school history, in a 70-67 double-overtime win at Wisconsin.
Greer, who has played more games in a season (37) and career (137) than any other Owl, still owns team single season records for three-pointers made (95) and three-point percentage (50-106, .472 in 1997-98). He holds the single game record for most free throws made (18) and free throw percentage (18-18, 1.000).
