COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The 2006 Terrapin Invitational concluded Sunday afternoon following 12th-ranked American's 3-1 win over Temple. Junior midfielder Ashley Bird scored her first goal of the season in the Owls' losing effort. With the loss, Temple drops even to 3-3 while the Eagles improve to 5-2 overall.

For the fifth straight game this season, Temple opened the contest's scoring following Bird's tally at the 13:14 mark of the first half. Bird's goal, one of four shots recorded by the Owls in the first session, was assisted by freshman forward Charise Young. In three games this week, Young posted five points on two goals and one assist. Just over seven minutes later, the Eagles evened the score following senior midfielder Camila Infante's goal at the 20:38 mark.

Less than three and a half minutes into the second half, American senior forward Heidi Hershberger scored the Eagles' eventual game-winner, from junior defender Denise Infante, at the 38:20 mark. American would add insurance to their one-goal advantage when sophomore forward Irene Schickhardt beat Owls' goalkeeper Erin Hanshue with just under 24 minutes remaining in the contest. The Owls would only muster one shot in the second half while the Eagles fired 11 of their 18 total in the final 35 minutes.

Hanshue pushed away eight shots in the loss while American senior goalkeeper Allison Fayfich needed just two saves for the win.

After a five-day lay-off, the Owls return to Geasey Field Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. against Monmouth.
