EASTON, PA - Junior midfielder Alli Lokey tallied the game-winner in the Owls' 2-1 overtime victory against Lafayette Sunday afternoon. Lokey's goal, her fourth of the season, propelled the Owls to their fifth win in as many games. Temple improves to 8-3 overall with the win while Lafayette dropped to 1-6.
The Owls' offense continued its torrid first half scoring output as freshman forward Mandi Ruth set up freshman forward Charise Young for the game's first goal just two minutes into play. In addition to being Young's fourth goal of the year, the score was the Owls' 15th recorded in the first half this season. Ruth's assist was her second of the season. Temple carried the one goal advantage into the intermission despite being out-shot by the hosts, 6-4.
Both offensive attacks would remain at bay for more than 67 minutes until Lafayette junior forward Laura Fabian tied the contest with just 42 seconds remaining in regulation. Fabian's tally, off a botched penalty corner, was her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Despite not cracking the scoreboard until less than a minute remaining, the Leopard offense peppered Owls' sophomore goalkeeper Erin Hanshue for 11 shots in the second stanza.
Lokey's unassisted goal came with just over six and a half minutes into the extra session and was converted through traffic in front of the cage. As the Owls are 2-1 in overtime games this season, Lokey was twice the culprit in supplying the game-winner.
Defensively, Hanshue stopped seven shots for the victory while Lafayette senior goalkeeper Jill Lambert made three saves. Owls' sophomore Mary Catherine Kinneman also recorded a defensive save.
The Cherry and White resumes play in seven days at home against Longwood at 1:00 p.m.
