PHILADELPHIA -- Day two of the Temple Field Hockey Invitational kicked off in dramatic fashion as #16 Michigan State (1-3) topped Temple (2-1) 2-1 in double-overtime.  Freshman midfielder Floor Rijpma's overtime goal secured the Spartans' first win of the season.  With the loss, the Owls drop to 2-1 on the season.

Temple broke 18 minutes of scoreless play when junior midfielder Alli Lokey deposited a penalty corner off feeds from junior defender Ashley Bird and sophomore midfielder Mary Catherine Kinneman.  The goal was Lokey's second of the season.   The Owls carried the 1-0 advantage into the intermission despite losing the shot and penalty corner battles, six-to-four and four-to-two, respectively.

The contest would go scoreless until Spartan freshman midfielder Anne-Sophie van Rijswjik converted a penalty corner with just 18 ticks remaining in regulation.  Junior midfielders Charlotte van der Laag and Amy Schneider were awarded assists on the game-tying tally.

Over 21 minutes of overtime play had elapsed before Rijpma ripped the game's winning goal past Owls goalkeeper Erin Hanshue from just inside the circle.  Both goalkeepers, Hanshue and Spartan Stephanie Yuhasz, stopped seven shots.

"We are very proud of our girls' effort today," said Temple second-year head coach Amanda Janney.  "This game will be something we can learn from as we continue this season."

In the invitational's final game of the weekend, #6 American extended their winning streak to three games following a 2-0 shutout of Rutgers.  Junior forward Maggie Hall scored the match's eventual game-winner.

The Owls remain at Geasey Field Wednesday evening against Rider.  The match is slated to being at 6:00 p.m.
