Following a scoreless first 35 minutes that had Temple with a 6-1 shot advantage, Temple's Charise Young scored just 58 ticks into the second stanza. The Owls held the lead till the 63rd minute mark when UMass' Katelyn Orlando found Cher King for the game's equalizer.
UMass came close to ending the overtime play when Lauren Gillespie fired a shot off a penalty corner, but it ended up going just wide of the cage. Despite failing on their first penalty corner of the overtime just moments before, Temple's Mary Catherine Kinneman set up Alli Lokey for the contest's decisive goal. The win gave Temple its first seven game winning streak since 1991.
