PHILADELPHIA - Micheal Eric, a 6-9 freshman forward from Lagos, Nigeria (Church Farm (Pa.) School) has been declared ineligible to compete on the Temple University men's basketball team due to NCAA initial eligibility guidelines.
"This is unfortunate as Micheal is an upstanding young man with a strong academic background," said Temple head men's basketball coach Fran Dunphy. "His ineligibility determination by the NCAA Clearinghouse was related more to his status as an international student than his academic standing. Even though he will not be able to compete this season, he is still a big part of the Temple basketball program, and we look forward to him contributing next season and beyond."
A two-year letterwinner at Church Farm, Eric earned first team all-league and all-area as a junior and senior. Last season, he averaged 19 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots per game while leading Church Farm to the KASC regular season championship. He also competed his sophomore year at Cesar Rodney (DE) High School.
The Owls open the 2007-08 campaign November 9 at Tennessee.
