PHILADELPHIA- In the Temple field hockey team's last home game the Owls defeated La Salle, 4-1, on Friday afternoon. Temple used three second half goals to win its fourth conference game in a row. The Owls hold a 13-5 overall record and boast a 4-1 conference record. The Explorers fall to 8-10 overall and 1-4 in the Atlantic 10.

Five minutes into the first half La Salle was awarded a penalty stroke. Sophomore Caitlin Conk lined up for La Salle to take the stroke against Temple goalie Erin Hanshue. Conk sent the ball toward the right side of the cage where Hanshue dived to make the save for the Owls. The Cherry and White put themselves on the board nine minutes into the first half. All-American candidate Alli Lokey sent a shot toward the La Salle goal off a penalty corner. Sophomore Dannah Brehm rushed in to tip Lokey's shot over La Salle goalie Ellen Axelsen and into the cage.

The first half ended with the Owls leading 1-0. Just two minutes into the second half La Salle tied up score. An initial shot from La Salle sent Hanshue to make a diving save. The save was deflected to the stick of La Salle sophomore Kara Harpel who took advantage of Hanshue being on the ground and found the right side of the cage.

The Owls responded two minutes later with their second goal of the game. Senior Leanne Vogelsong sent a shot toward cage that was saved by Axelson. Sophomore Kasey Ruth collected the save and one-timed a shot to the back of the boards. Only four minutes later, Brehm retrieved a save off Axelson's pads for her second goal of the game and put the Owls on top 3-1. With four minutes left in the game Temple scored its last goal of the day. Lokey hit a straight line shot at La Salle goalie Axelson, who was caught off balance and unable to stop Lokey's shot. Lokey's goal marks her 16th of the season.

Temple dominated the Explorers in shots, 20-9, and penalty corners, 12-4. Hanshue, who is currently ranked fifth in the nation for save percentage, made five saves in the game.

The Cherry and White will travel to West Chester on Sunday, October 21 at 12 p.m. for their sixth conference game this season.
