PHILADELPHIA- The Temple field hockey team will begin Atlantic 10 Conference play Friday on Geasey Field at 3:00 p.m. against Richmond. The Owls enter conference play with a 9-4 record, while Richmond currently has a 1-9 record. At the start of the season the A10 coaches poll picked Temple to finish first in the league with Richmond finishing second. In this week's womensfieldhockey.com poll the Owls are ranked #16.

In what has become a heated rivalry, Richmond leads the all-time series, 12-0. Last season Temple came its closest to beating the Spiders. Both games against Richmond ended in the same score, 2-1, in overtime. In seven of the last 12 meetings the games have been decided by no more than one goal. Temple is ranked first in the league in shots (181), points (76), assists (24), assists per game (1.85), and penalty corners (103). The Owls rank over the Spiders in all 11 categories except one, saves.

The Owls' four losses this season were to nationally ranked teams. Senior Alli Lokey leads the league in shots (73), shots per game (5.62), points per game (1.69), and is tied in goals (8), assists (6), and game winners (3). Fellow senior Leanne Vogelsong is tied with Lokey in assists. Junior goalie Erin Hanshue is presently ranked 12th in the nation in save percentage (.804).
