Rieger, Magro Earn Major Awards, Named to All-BIG EAST First Team

11.6.25 | Field Hockey

NEW YORK – After helping lead the Temple University field hockey team to 12 wins, the BIG EAST Conference announced Thursday morning that senior Peyton Rieger and freshman Lucia Magro earned major conference honors and were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.

Along with collecting All-BIG EAST First Team accolades, Rieger was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year, while Magro earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors.

Rieger becomes just the second Owl in program history to be named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, joining Amber Youtz (2014). Magro is the first Owl to be recognized as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and only the second in program history to earn a conference freshman honor, joining Haley Dervinis, the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 2000.

Rieger was a force from start to finish in her senior campaign, recording 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points — the most by a Temple player since Alyssa Delp's 37-point senior season in 2015. She closed her career in style, scoring her fifth game-winning goal of the year in overtime of a 3-2 win over Providence. Rieger ranks tied for second in the conference in both points and goals, and seventh in assists. She earned two BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors and twice landed on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Magro capped her freshman season with 20 points on nine goals and two assists — the most by an Owl freshman since 1987, when all-time points leader Jane Catanzaro tallied 35 points. She notched three game-winning goals and earned three BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors, along with two selections to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Temple closed the 2025 season with a 12-6 record.
