Bird and Lokey Named A-10 Defensive and Offensive Player Of The Year, Respectively

PHILADELPHIA- All-american candidate Alli Lokey and senior Ashley Bird received the highest honors in the Atlantic 10 for the 2007 field hockey season, with Lokey taking home Offensive Player Of The Year honors and Bird garnering the Defensive Player Of The Year title . The last time a Temple player was named either offensive or defensive player of the year was in 1990 by Temple great Jane Catanzaro.
Lokey, Bird and sophomore Dannah Brehm were named to the A-10's First Team, while senior Leanne Vogelsong was selected to the Second Team. Junior goalkeeper was as Honorable Mention selection. Bird and Charise Young were recognized for their work in the classroom, earning spots on the A-10 All-Academic team.
All-American candidate Lokey ranks first in the A-10 in nine different statistical categories and was voted the conference's Player Of The Week four time this season. Lokey ranks second in the nation for overall goals this season, third in points per game, and fourth in goals per game. She was named to the NFHCA 2007 Senior All-Star team. The Bainbridge, Pa native is the first A-10 offensive player not from Richmond since 2001.
Bird has been an anchor of Temple's defense for four years. She has had three goals and two assists this season giving her a career high eight points. Bird has complied six goals and seven assists in her career. An all-around strong player, Bird was named to the NFHCA 2007 Senior All-Star team. She is a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Team.
The Owls will be in action in the Atlantic 10 tournament held at Saint Joseph's on Friday, November 2 at 11 a.m. Temple will take on Saint Joseph's in the semi-finals.
