Lokey And Bird Tabbed First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region Honors

PHILADELPHIA- All-American candidates Alli Lokey and Ashley Bird are one step closer to becoming the first All-American's for Temple field hockey since the 2003 season after being tabbed First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region honorees. The two were awarded the honor by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

 

Also receiving honors by the NFHCA were juniors Erin Hanshue and Mary Catherine Kinneman. Both garnered Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors.

 

"It is a great honor to have four of our players listed as the best in the Mid-Atlantic region," said head coach Amanda Janney. "It is a strong reflection on the entire team's accomplishments and I hope the whole team can be proud of their teammates' recognition."

 

All-American candidate Lokey ranked first in the A-10 in eight different statistical categories at the end of her season and was voted the conference's Offensive Player Of The Year. Lokey earned Player Of The Week four times this season. Lokey ranked second in the nation for overall goals and points at the end of Temple's season. She also ranked third in points per game, and fourth in goals per game. She was named to the NFHCA 2007 Senior All-Star team and earned A-10 All-Championship honors. The Bainbridge, Pa native is the first A-10 offensive player not from Richmond since 2001.

 

All-American candidate Bird has been an anchor of Temple's defense for four years. Named the A-10 Defensive Player Of The Year, she had three goals and two assists this season giving her a career high eight points. Bird has complied six goals and seven assists in her career. An all-around strong player, Bird was named to the NFHCA 2007 Senior All-Star team. She is a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Team.

Hanshue earned A-10 Honorable Mention honors this season and was ranked third in the nation for save percentage at the end of her season. This is the second year in a row that she has received this honor. Hanshue recorded 124 saves, 30 goals against and a .805 save percentage playing every minute this season for the Owls.

 

Kinneman had one goal, two assists, four points, and three defensive saves on the season. In the Owls 2-1 win over UMass, Kinneman tallied a defensive save to help the Owls win the game.
