Dionte Christmas Earns Fourth A-10 Player Of The Week Honor

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University sophomore guard Dionte Christmas has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for an A-10 leading fourth time this season. The Philadelphia native (Philadelphia Lutheran Christian Academy) also was named Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the third time this season. He shares the A-10 honor with Massachusetts senior forward Stephane Lasme for the week ending February 10.

Christmas, who averaged 24 points in two Owl wins during the week, is now tied with Nate Blackwell (1986-87) for the second most times a Temple player has been honored by the conference in one season. Mardy Collins owns the most A-10 citations in one season with five during the 2004-05 campaign It also ties him for fifth all-time in A-10 history,

Christmas, who is playing with 17 stitches in the webbing between the third and fourth fingers of his left hand, started the week by scoring 17 points and dishing three assists in an 89-64 win over La Salle on Feb. 4. Against St. Bonaventure, he tallied 31 points, his A-10 leading fourth 30-point effort of the season, on 12-of-18 shooting from the field (6-11 3PT, 1-1 FTs) in the Owls' 109-70 win. For the week, he made 20-of-33 attempts from the field (.60.6), seven-of-16 from three-point range (.437) and 1-of-1 from the line (1.000).

Christmas continues to lead the A-10 in scoring with a 21.6 scoring average, 20-point games (16) and 30-point games (4). He also ranks fourth in the conference in free throw percentage (.891), second in three-pointers made (3.05 pg.), fourth in field goal percentage (.512), fourth in three-point percentage (.444) and sixth in steals (1.55).
