PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Dion Dacons and Dustin Salisbery will take the floor Wednesday night for their final game at the Liacouras Center when the Owls host Atlantic 10 Conference rival Dayton (7:00 p.m./WPHT 1210 AM). The two starters, who lead the Cherry and White in steals and rebounds, respectively, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. They will then lead the Owls (12-15, 6-8 A-10) in a battle with the Flyers (16-11, 6-8) to determine seeding in next week's Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament. The teams are currently tied along with Charlotte for eighth place in the conference standings.
It has been junior Mark Tyndale who has had the hot hand of late for head coach Fran Dunphy's Owls. The 6-5 guard scored a career-high 37 points in the team's win against Charlotte and is averaging 28.8 points while shooting 44-of-66 (66.7%) from the field over the last four games. Tyndale has moved into second place in the conference in scoring with a 19.3 average, just one point behind teammate Dionte Christmas (20.3 ppg.). Christmas, on the other hand, will be looking to break out of the coldest stretch of his sophomore season. The 6-4 guard has made just 15-of-45 (33.3%) field goal attempts during the same stretch of games for an 11.0 scoring average.
Salisbery ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with a 16.7 average while Dacons is 11th in the conference in rebounding (7.0 rpg.). Sophomore guard Semaj Inge tops the team in assists with 71 while Sergio Olmos, recently re-inserted into starting lineup, is ninth in the A-10 in blocks (0.9 bpg.)
Dayton will be looking for just its second road win of the season and to snap a three-game losing streak. Junior guard Brian Roberts leads the Flyers and ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with an 18.4 average. Sophomore forward Charles Little (10.4 ppg./4.7 rpg.) also averages double figure points.
Temple leads the series with Dayton, 14-8, and has won the last three meetings.
