PHILADELPHIA - Craig Williams, a 6-8, 230-pound forward out of Central High in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Temple University on a men's basketball scholarship. Williams becomes the fourth member of Temple head coach Fran Dunphy's first full recruiting class, joining early signees - 6-9 forward Lavoy Allen, 6-10 forward Micheal Eric and 6-2 guard Martavis Kee.
"We are delighted to have him," said Dunphy. "We are looking forward to him making a smooth adjustment to college life at Temple, both on the court and in the classroom."
Williams, who averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior in 2006-07, was named the Most Valuable Player of the All Virgin Islands Hoop Classic held April 13-14. He scored 36 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the event that took place at Central High.
Williams took part in Basketball Without Borders 2006, a basketball instructional camp that also featured extensive community outreach and incorporated educational seminars addressing important social issues such as HIV/AIDS prevention and education. The participants (ages 19 & under) from more than 13 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean were selected by FIBA and the NBA, in conjunction with participating basketball federations, based on their basketball skills, leadership abilities and dedication to the sport.
