PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team celebrated the 2006 season, the program's best since 1991, on Saturday, April 28 in the Liacouras Center's Fox-Gittis Room. Among the festivities, all team awards were distributed and the Owls' lone senior, Megan Hannahoe, was honored for her four seasons of dedication to TUFH.
Following a career season and first team All-Atlantic 10 selection, junior Alli Lokey was awarded the program's Offensive Most Valuable Player Award. On the other side, sophomore goalkeeper Erin Hanshue, who finished the season ranked 6th and 12th-nationally in goals against average and save percentage, respectively, was given the team's Most Valuable Defensive Player Award.
Freshman Whitney Weiant (Most Improved Player Award), Hannahoe (Sportsmanship Award) and junior Leanne Vogelsong (Hustler Award) were also acknowledged for their performance in between the lines.
For their outstanding academic performances, sophomore Liz Watto and freshman Charise Young were selected the Anne Volp Owl Club Academic Award winners. Hannahoe collected her third honor of the afternoon after being named the Anne Volp Field Hockey Scholar, an award given to a member of the team that best exemplifies the qualities displayed by Coach Volp during her long career.
In its inaugural season, the 1st Annual Randy Lokey Memorial Award was presented to Rod and Debbie Hannahoe, the parents of Megan Hannahoe, for their faithful support and positive enthusiasm for the field hockey program.
Freshmen Brittni Bretz, Dannah Brehm, Kasey and Mandi Ruth, Kate Stewart, Kristen Wanner and Charise Young were awarded their first Temple "T" varsity letters.
Following an overtime loss to Richmond in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Owls completed the 2006 season with a 13-7, the most wins in program history since 1991.
