PHILADELPHIA- Former Wake Forest University midfielder Maeke Boreel will join head coach Amanda Janney as a volunteer assistant for the 2007 season.
"Maeke brings great international experience to our team that we need to get to the next level," said head coach Amanda Janney. "She was a brilliant Center Midfielder for Wake Forest and I know she will be a great help to improve our possession game in our Midfield. She has outstanding dribbling skills and I am excited to have her scrimmage with our players so that can learn by watching her play. She is a great communicator and teacher of the game and her coaching abilities will further enhance our Coaching Staff. We are very appreciative that she has made the commitment to join our hockey program. I am looking forward to working with Maeke and I know that she will help our team in great ways!"
The Almen, Holland native started every game of her career with Wake Forest. Boreel holds program records for assists in a career (54), season (20) and single game (6). In 2004, Boreel led the nation with her season assists (20). During her career, she compiled an 83-8 record and was part of three NCAA Championship teams (2003-2005). Boreel was also a teammate of current graduate assistant coach Jamie Whitten for two seasons.
"I'm really excited and thankful to be a part of this program," said Boreel. "AJ has done a great job of improving the program and hopefully I can use some of my experience to contribute."
Boreel was named to the All-ACC team (2003-2005), ACC All-Tournament team (2004), NCAA All-Tournament team (2003-2004), NFHCA First Team All-South Region (2003-2004), Second Team NFHCA All-American (2004-2005), and First Team All-American by Womensfieldhockey.com (2004).
A 2006 graduate, Boreel earned a bachelor's degree in business. In addition to her athletic accolades, she was also a standout in the classroom. Boreel was selected to the Dean's List every semester of her academic career, and she was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll and the NFHCA National Honor Roll.
Boreel is pursuing a master's of business administration from Temple's Fox School of Business.
