PHILADELPHIA- With the loss of only one player and having just played their best season since 1991 the Temple Field Hockey team has been voted by the Atlantic 10 head coaches to finish in first place for the 2007 season. In the preseason poll, the Owls are placed first over five-time champion Richmond. Rounding out the top four are Massachusetts and St. Joseph's.

"With only losing one player (Megan Hannahoe) to graduation from last season, we're really looking forward to the 2007 season," commented head coach Amanda Janney. "We're very pleased that the Temple University Tournament Invitational will again bring three strong teams to Geasey Field. We really feel that this kind of non-conference schedule and another competitive Atlantic 10 season will prepare us for the postseason and build on the future of our program."

Having only lost one senior last season the Owls have a strong squad returning for action this season. Last season the field hockey team boasted their best season since 1991. This season shows promise of being better than last season. With strong players, such as captain trio seniors Alli Lokey, Leanne Vogelsong and junior Mary Catherine Kinneman, the Cherry and White are looking like tough competition. Lokey returns to the Temple midfield after setting career-highs during the 2006 season. The First Team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Tournament team selection led the Owls in six (6) offensive categories: points (24), goals (10), assists (tied, 4), shots (62), shots on goal (40) and game-winning goals (5). Providing more talent and presence to the midfield and the defensive line, Vogelsong and Kinneman earned Honorable Mention All-Conference and Second Team All-Conference last season. Junior Erin Hanshue, one of the country's leading goalkeepers, returns for another dominating season. Hanshue finished the season ranked 6th and 12th nationally with a 1.13 goals against average and a .780 save percentage.

Adding new fashion to the mix, Janney brings in a new coaching staff that has no lack of athletic talent. Assistant coach, Beth Riley, set all-time records in games played (79) and wins (57) as a goalkeeper at Michigan ('07). Graduate Assistant coach, Jamie Whitten, unites the Owls after earning wins in two National Championships (2004, 2005) as an All-ACC defender at Wake Forest ('07). Volunteer Assistant Coach, Maeke Boreel, joins the Cherry and White with program records for assists in a career (54), season (20), single game (6) and National Championships (2003, 2004, 2005) in her pocket from Wake Forest ('06).

Janney also welcomes five incoming freshman to the team's veteran roster. "All five players were captains of their high school teams and they bring in a strong leadership background," boasted Janney. "This is a strong freshmen class that will compete for a variety of positions with our upperclassmen and will make us a better team in the fall."

The Owls begin their movement on August 25 at Lehigh with their first Atlantic 10 action on October 5 against Richmond at Geasey Field.
