No. 7 Penn State Defeats Temple, 2-0, In Field Hockey

STATE COLLEGE, PA- Penn State's Mallory Weisen scored two goals as No. 7 Penn State defeated Temple, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Penn State's AstroTurf Field. The win takes Penn State's record to 4-2, while Temple falls to 4-3 on the season. All three of the Owls' losses have been to teams in the Top 20 (Penn State, Michigan, and Albany).
The Nittany Lions scored a goal in each half of the contest. Both Weisen's goals came off penalty corners with the first one was at the 8:58 mark. Temple goalie Erin Hanshue (one save) was able to get her pads on the initial shot, but the ball deflected into the cage. The final goal came at 55:30 when Weisen dribbled in a penalty corner and found the back of the cage. Penn State goalie Jen Beaumont tallied four saves in today's game.
The Owls tied the Nittany Lions in shots with seven apiece, while Penn State held the advantage in penalty corners, 5-2.
Temple will return to Geasey Field on Sunday, September 16 to play Virginia Commonwealth at 1:00 p.m.
