PHILADELPHIA- Senior Ashley Bird converted a penalty corner to lead Temple to a 3-2 overtime win over Lock Haven in the team's final game of the Temple University Invitational Tournament. The Owls (3-1) had defeated Penn, 4-2, in the first game of the tourney Saturday.

In the first five minutes of the game Temple was awarded their first penalty corner. Sophomore Charise Young put in a rebound to give the Cherry and White an early 1-0 lead.  With 10 minutes left to play in the half, Lock Haven's Megan Albert scored off a cross from Megan Bullock to tie the game.

The game remained scoreless until senior Alli Lokey blistered a shot into the cage off a penalty corner started by sophomore Charise Young with a stop from senior Leanne Vogelsong.

With one minute remaining in regulation Lock Haven's Samantha Stoyer tied the game.  Stoyer hit the back of the cage off a rebound from the pads of Temple goalie Erin Hanshue. With no time left on the clock Temple tried one last time to win the game in regulation off a penalty corner, but the shot went wide.

The start of overtime showed each team in favorable situations. Each team had continuous scoring opportunities until Temple was finally awarded a penalty corner. Bird then scored the game-winning goal off the pads of Lock Haven goalie Ali Harris. Hanshue ended the game with seven saves for the Owls.

In the earlier game Kent State defeated Penn for its second victory of the tournament. The Golden Flashes won the game 3-1.

Temple's next game will be played on September 7 at Albany.
