PHILADELPHIA - Temple University junior Dionte Christmas has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the week ending January 20. The 6-5 guard averaged 21.5 ppg., 4.0 rpg., 3.0 apg. and 1.5 spg. in 40.5 mpg while leading the Owls to two wins. It marks the second time he has earned Big 5 Player of the Week this season and fifth in his career.
Christmas made 15-of-26 field goal attempts (58%) and 9-for-19 (47%) from long range over the two games. He scored a game-high 23 points in leading the Owls to a 78-58 upset of #20 Xavier on January 16. He followed that with a game-high 20 points in a 54-53 overtime win at Saint Louis. The Philadelphia native scored his 1,000th point on his first basket against Xavier, and then tallied 19 second half points, including 14 early in the frame, to give Temple the lead for good. He forced a turnover with 0.8 seconds left in the overtime period to preserve the win at SLU.
