PHILADELPHIA - Senior Liz Watto netted two goals while junior Charise Young and senior Jamie Adams added a goal apiece as the Owls opened up Atlantic 10 conference play in style with a 4-2 victory over West Chester on Friday afternoon from Geasey Field.

After struggling to maintain a consistent offensive attack for past month of non-conference play, the Cherry and White (5-8, 1-0) chose the perfect time to score its most goals since a season-opening 5-0 victory over Bryant. The Owls peppered the Rams' defense all afternoon, posting 17 shots and 11 shots on goal for the game.

Before a large crowd on hand to support the Owls Play 4 The Cure Game, the two teams battled back and forth for the first 28 minutes until Watto got the Cherry and White on the board. She handled a rebound following a flurry of Temple shots and snuck a goal past the goalkeeper, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Then, with just :58 seconds remaining in the first half, Young added her first goal since August 31st to give the Owls a 2-0 lead heading into the break. Young's goal was assisted by junior Dannah Brehm.

In the second half, Watto struck again in the 43rd minute with an unassisted goal to give the Cherry and White a commanding 3-0 lead.

Even with the big lead, the Golden Rams would not go down without a fight. West Chester's Brittany Cislack scored two goals in a twelve minute span (49th, 61st) to bring the score to 3-2 with just nine minutes to play. But the clincher for the Cherry and White came just :30 seconds later, when senior Jamie Adams scored from the center of the circle to give the Cherry and White a 4-2 that they would hold to for the remainder of the game.

In goal for the Cherry and White, senior Erin Hanshue anchored a strong defensive effort in goal with four saves.

It's a quick turnaround for the Cherry and White, as the Owls to will make the short trip to La Salle for its first conference road game on Sunday. Action is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
