Volleyball Nearly Topples Xavier, 3-2

Cincinnati, Ohio-The Temple volleyball team battled hard but could not topple the Xavier Musketeers, falling 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 14-25, 14-16), to the home team on Saturday night. Yun Yi Zhang led the Owls with a double-double of 26 kills and 10 digs. Temple drops to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in the A-10.
Jackie Morrison dished a team-high 49 assists, while Patricia Vernon had 12 kills. Caitlin Loudon earned 10 digs and Ariel Pierre contributed 16 digs. Jacqueline Cowden posted five blocks.
Temple used a .405 hitting percentage to take set one, 25-23 but Xavier responded with a 25-19 victory in set two to even the match at one. The Owls took a 2-1 lead with a 25-22 win in game three and it seemed that they were going to roll to a win. Xavier wasn't finished yet, however, dominating set four and forcing a fifth and final set.
TU struck first in set five and took a 5-2 lead. The Owls continued to fight and built a 13-9 advantage. Xavier came storming back to tie the set at 13 and rode its momentum to a 16-14 win.
The Owls return to action Friday, October 17, hosting George Washington at 6 p.m.
