PHILADELPHIA-Temple volleyball (12-10, 5-4 A-10) used a .402 hitting clip to shut out the visiting Charlotte 49ers, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-17), and snap its four-match losing skid on Saturday evening at McGonigle Hall. Charlotte (9-13, 1-6 A-10) struggled to get its offense going, posting just at .057 hitting percentage.
Yun Yi Zhang led all players with 13 kills, while Ariel Pierre had 10 digs. Jackie Morrison returned to the line-up to dish 33 assists. Jacqueline Cowden blocked four Charlotte attacks.
The Owls wasted little time demonstrating their dominance in set one, taking an early 8-4 lead. The 49ers rallied back to tie the score at 13 but that would be as close as they could get, as Temple closed out the set with a 25-20 result. The Cherry and White used a .435 hitting percentage to blank Charlotte in set three, not allowing the visitors even one kill. TU posted a .520 hitting performance in the third set to close out the match with a 3-0 result.
The Owls take a break from A-10 play on Tuesday when they host Virginia Commonwealth and former TU standout Yue Liu at 12 p.m.
