Field Hockey Falls to#8 Michigan State in Non-Conference Finale

EAST LANSING, MI - Playing its final non-conference game of the season, the Temple Field Hockey was roughed up on the road up by #8 Michigan State, falling 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls (4-8) simply had no answers for the talented Spartans (11-1), who scored nine goals for the second consecutive game. Seven different players scored for Michigan State, with junior Jeamie Deacon leading the team with five points. The Spartans scored four goals in the opening frame to build a 4-0 at the half before adding five goals in the second stanza.
The Cherry and White were able to test Michigan State's Elissa Unger, who recorded a season-high nine saves on the day. Junior Kristen Wanner lead the way with three shots on goal for the Cherry and White while seniors Mary Catherine Kinneman and Liz Watto each added two shots on goal.
In goal for the Cherry and White, senior Erin Hanshue added seven saves while sophomore Sarah Dalrymple added five saves.
The Owls led in penalty corners with 10 to the Spartans nine.
The Owls return home on Friday to begin defense of last season's A-10 regular season championship, as the Cherry and White host West Chester to open up conference play. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
