Field Hockey Adds Six Players for 2008

PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey head coach Amanda Janney, entering her fourth season in 2008, has announced six incoming freshmen for the Class of 2012. The newest Owls are Melissa Brinckman, Becca Keener, Kaylee Keener, Caryn Lambright, Bridget Settles and Carissa Young
"Our coaching staff is extremely pleased with this incoming class of six great student-athletes," said coach Janney. "They were all captains from strong high school programs, so they will bring in a good mix of athletic talent and leadership abilities that will strengthen our current team. We are looking to build on our winning season from 2007 and we are confident that this incoming class will have an immediate positive impact".
Brinckman, a native of East Greenville, Pa., was captain of an Upper Perkiomen squad that went to the final four of the PAC-10 league and the second round of districts. She was selected first-team PAC-10 Conference and Academic All-Conference, as well as Athlete of the Season. During her junior season, she helped lead her team to a 23-2 record, PAC-10 conference championship and second place finish in the state championship. She was also a participant in the US Field Hockey National Festival during her sophomore and junior seasons.
Becca Keener, a Lititz, Pa. native, led Warwick High School to a 23-2-6 record during her senior campaign. She led the team in possession passes for the season and received Academic All-State honors and was selected a league all-star. A three-year letterwinner, she was named offensive MVP for the league all-star game.
Kaylee Keener, a native of Millerstown, Pa., tallied 55 goals and 36 assists during her career at Greenwood High School. A two-time captain, she tallied 16 goals and 7 assists and was named to the Patriot News Big 11 first-team, Daily Item first-team, Tri-Valley League first-team and second-team All-State during her senior season. As a junior, she was named to the Patriot News Big 11 first-team, Daily Item first-team, Tri-Valley League first-team and MVP of the team. She was also named to Patriot News Big 11 all-underclassmen team and Daily Item second-team during her freshmen and sophomore campaigns. She also participated in the National Hockey Festival and National Indoor Tournament with Mid-State FH Club from 2006 to 2008, winning a gold medal at the national festival in 2007.
Lambright, a native of Palmyra, Pa., tallied five goals and six assists during her senior season. As team captain, she helped lead her squad to a 24-5 record, District III championship and PIAA AA state runner-up. She was named first team Mid-Penn Conference All-Star, PFHCA Academic All-State, NFHCA Academic All-American, Lebanon Daily News All-County team and Palmyra High School players' player award winner.
Settles, a native of Haddon Township, NJ, holds the school record with 77 career goals as well as the single-season scoring record. Captain of her team, she was selected first-team All South Jersey, first-team All Colonial Conference, first-team All Group II and Offensive MVP for her team during her senior campaign. She was also selected first-team All Colonial Conference, first-team All Group II and Offensive MVP during her sophomore and junior seasons.
Young, a native of Harleysville, PA, tallied 18 goals and 20 assists in her senior season at Christopher Dock High School. A team captain, she was selected first-team Bicentennial Athletic League, The Intelligencer All-Area first-team, and team MVP during her senior campaign. A three-year letterwinner and member of three consecutive BAL championship teams, Young was also a participate in the Keystone Games and won two field hockey gold medals and two National Indoor gold medals. Young is the younger sister of current team member sophomore Charise Young.
"We are happy to welcome these players and their families to our field hockey program," said coach Janney. "We are excited about the future of Temple field hockey and these six talented student-athletes will ensure that our program will continue to succeed and hold true to the winning traditions that our alumni have set forth".
