Dionte Christmas Named USBWA First Team All-District

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University junior guard Dionte Christmas has been named to the 2008 USBWA First Team All-District I squad. He was one of four Atlantic 10 Conference players on the team, joining Pat Calathes (Saint Joseph's), Will Daniels (Rhode Island) and Gary Forbes (Massachusetts). District I comprises teams from the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont and West Virginia.
Christmas, a three-time Atlantic 10 Conference and Big 5 Player of the Week honoree, is tied with Forbes for the A-10 scoring with a 20.3 average. The 6-5 guard also ranks among the conference leaders in three-pointers made (3rd, 3.20 pg.), free throw percentage (10th, .786) and field goal percentage (11th, .446).
A First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, Christmas has scored 20 or more points 16 times and 30 or more points three times, including an A-10 best and career-high 37 points in a 90-85 win over Duquesne (3/5). That scoring outburst helped him garner espn.com's National Player of the Week honors (3/9). He also has led the Owls in scoring in 21 games, and has tallied double figures in every contest.
Temple (18-12, 11-5) is the second seed in the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship and next plays the winner of #7-seed La Salle and #10-seed (17-12, 7-9on Thursday at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall (6:30 p.m./Comcast Sportsnet/1210 AM WPHT).
