Mark Tyndale Named Most Inspirational Player At Portsmouth Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Senior guard Mark Tyndale was named the recipient of the Allen Iverson Most Inspirational Player Award Saturday night (April 12) after helping lead his Tidewater Sealants to the Portsmouth Invitational Championship.

One of the best well-rounded players in Temple history, Tyndale showcased his all-around game at the Virginia Tournament, averaging 9.3 points, 7.0 assists, 6.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game in the three games.

In his team's opening round contest, he scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished eight assists and blocked four shots as Tidewater defeated Holiday Inn Portsmouth, 99-81. He followed that with 10 points, five assists and four rebounds in the team's 94-91 semifinal win over Norfolk Naval Academy. In the Championship game, a 103-80 victory over Portsmouth Sports Club, he had seven points, eight rebounds, eight assists, four steals and two blocks.

Tyndale, who was named the Philadelphia Big 5's co-Most Outstanding Player along with Tidewater teammate Pat Calathes of Saint Joseph's, had to miss his Temple Awards banquet due to his participation at the tournament. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Temple men's basketball team at the banquet held Thursday night.
