PHILADELPHIA- After collecting its first ever Atlantic 10 regular season title last season, the Temple field hockey team is back with a challenging 2008 schedule, as announced today by Head Coach Amanda Janney. The Owls, who begin their season on August 30 at home against Lehigh, will face off against three teams who were ranked in the Top 11 in the nation last season.
The Cherry and White open their season with back to back games against the Mountain Hawks and Bryant University on August 30 and 31 before traveling to Newark, Delaware to play in the University of Delaware Tournament. Temple will take on Boston University, a team that finished the 2007 season ranked #11, on September 6 and Ohio State on September 7.
Temple continues its road trip with games against Penn State (Sept. 10), Lafayette (Sept. 12) and Rutgers (Sept. 14) but returns to Geasey Field for match-ups with Delaware, cross-town rival Drexel and Rider. The game against the Broncs on September 28 will also be TU’s annual Alumni Day.
A tough road trip to Michigan in which Temple will face the University of Michigan and Michigan State, squads that finished last season ranked #6 and #8, respectively, wraps up the Cherry and White’s non-conference schedule on October 5.
The Owls’ quest for an Atlantic 10 championship begins on October 10 at home against West Chester. Temple will also host Saint Louis (Oct. 17) and Saint Joseph’s (Nov. 1), contests that will both hold special meaning for the Cherry and White. October 17’s game will mark the Owls’ Play 4 The Cure game, where the team will be collecting money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink. TU will celebrate Senior Day on November 1. Road contests include La Salle (Oct. 12), Richmond (Oct. 19), and defending A-10 champion UMass (Oct. 26), as well as Penn (Oct. 22).
Temple's Geasey Field will play host to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, Friday November 7 and Saturday, November 8.
