PHILADELPHIA - For the second consecutive day, the Temple field hockey team used a potent offense and stringy defense to simply overwhelm its opponent at home, this time defeating Bryant University 5-0 from Geasey Field on Sunday afternoon.

Once again, the star of the game was junior Charise Young. She added two goals against Bryant, just one day after recording a hat trick against Lehigh. Junior Dannah Brehm also came up big for the Cherry and White, adding a goal and two assists. Sophomores Taryn Nichols and Stephanie McGinty both connected on their first goals of the season to round out the scoring for the Owls.

With the win, the Owls have now outscored their first two opponents 10-0 to start the season.

While the Owls were in control for most of the game, out-shooting the Bulldogs 34-4, the game remained scoreless for the first 20 minutes. That all changed when Brehm connected for her first goal of the season with an assist from senior Jamie Adams. The score remained 1-0 until the final three minutes of the first half, when the Cherry and White would score two goals in the final minutes to break the game wide open. First it was Nichols scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Brehm. Then it Young scoring with just five seconds remaining in the half to give the Owls a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the break.

It was more of the same in the second half, as McGinty was able to score from a huddle in front of the net in the 54th minute to make it 4-0. Young would score the final goal of the game in the 65th minute, set up by a beautiful pass from her sister freshman Carissa Young.

Goalies Erin Hanshue and Sarah Dalrymple combined to make three saves and post the Cherry and White's second consecutive shutout.

The Owls return to action next week when they travel to Newark, Delaware to face Boston University in the Delaware Tournament.
